Seahawks Expected To Waive 2017 2nd-Rd Pick DT Malik McDowell

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Seahawks still have not cleared 2017 second-round DT Malik McDowell and they are expected to cut him loose at some point in the near future.

According to Rapoport, the hope for McDowell is that another team will medically clear him.

Lasts year, McDowell suffered a concussion and facial injuries after being involved in an incident. The Seahawks officially placed McDowell on the non-football injury list.

In December, McDowell was arrested for disorderly conduct in Atlanta, GA.

McDowell, 21, was selected with the No. 35 overall pick by the Seahawks last year after they elected to trade down with the Jaguars. In total, the Seahawks gave up the No. 34 overall pick and acquired a second- and a sixth-round pick in this year’s draft for the right to select McDowell.

McDowell signed a four-year, $6.95 million contract that includes $4.91 million guaranteed and he stands to make base salaries of $781,155 and $1.09 million over the next two years of the agreement.

During his three-year college career at Michigan State, McDowell recorded 88 total tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles, and scored one defensive touchdown in 32 games with the Spartans.
