Adam Schefter is reporting that the San Diego Chargers have placed Shawn Merriman on IR because of a calf injury. The Chargers will have to release him when he becomes healthy. Merriman can still join another team and play this season but he will no longer be a Charger. Schefter reports that he could be healthy in a few weeks so he will likely start looking for a new team in the mean time.
