Steelers GM Kevin Colbert Proposed Adding Three Rounds To Draft

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said on a conference call with league officials that the draft should be extended by three rounds because of the pandemic restrictions.

Colbert’s reasoning was that in the absence of pro days, individual workouts or in-person meetings, teams were at a disadvantage and would make more mistakes. Three additional picks per team would help mitigate that.

Teams are allowed to interview an unlimited number of prospects so long as they disclose the full list to the NFL office. However, Mehta says teams view the inability to conduct private on-field workouts as a “significant” setback by some evaluators.

Mehta adds that some decision-makers around the league believe late-round picks and undrafted players will be the most impacted by the amended process.

We’ll have more regarding potential changes to the NFL draft as the news is available.
