The Pittsburgh Steelers officially placed C Mike Matthews on injured reserve after passing through waivers unclaimed on Wednesday.
Pro Football Talk reported Tuesday that Matthews, unfortunately, suffered a torn patella tendon and is expected to be out 4-6 months.
Matthews, 23, is the son of Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews and the brother of Falcons LT Jake Matthews. He originally signed on with the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M back in May of last year.
The Steelers waived him with an injury designation on Tuesday.
However, the Browns waived Matthews at the start of the regular season and he sat out the entire year. The Steelers signed him to a future/reserve contract this past February.
