The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Wednesday that the NFL has placed LB Anthony Chickillo on the commissioner’s exempt list and they’ve re-signed OLB Jayrone Elliott.
Chickillo was arrested and charged with simple assault, criminal mischief and harassment this weekend. The incident reportedly involves Chickillo’s girlfriend.
Police took Chickillo into custody and he was arraigned this morning with bail being set at $10,000. Chickillo has a Preliminary Hearing scheduled for October 30.
Chickillo, 26, is a former sixth-round pick of the Steelers back in 2015. He was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later signed to the team’s practice squad.
From there, testing was promoted to the Steelers’ active roster a few weeks into the 2015 season and has been on their active roster ever since.
Chickillo signed a two-year, $8 million extension with the Steelers this past March.
In 2019, Chickillo has appeared in three games and recorded one tackle and a half sack.
Elliott, 27, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out Toledo back in 2014. He played out the final year of his three-year, $1,535,000 rookie contract with the Packers but did not receive a restricted offer from them.
The Packers re-signed Elliott in 2017 before trading him to the Cowboys at the start of the regular season. Since then, Elliott has played for the Saints, Dolphins and Steelers.
In 2019, Elliott has appeared in three games for the Steelers and recorded three tackles and no sacks.
