Steelers Waive/Injured DB Herb Waters, Sign DB Derrek Thomas

The Pittsburgh Steelers officially waived DB Herb Waters with an injury designation on Thursday and signed DB Derrek Thomas to a contract.

The Steelers also placed DB Alexander Myres on the non-football injury list after clearing waivers.

Should Waters clear waivers tomorrow, he would revert to the Steelers’ injured serve list.

Waters, 26, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Miami back in 2016. He was, unfortunately, waived coming out of the preseason and later signed to their practice squad.

The Packers waived Waters last year and he later signed on to the Steelers’ practice squad. Pittsburgh brought him back on a futures contract this past January.

During his college career at Miami, Waters played receiver and caught 99 passes for 1,534 yards receiving and nine touchdowns over the course of 42 games.
