Taco Charlton Officially Clears Waivers, Now Free Agent

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that former Cowboys and Dolphins DE Taco Charlton officially passed through waivers unclaimed on Friday.

Charlton is now a free agent for the first time in his NFL career and can sign with a team of his choosing.

Miami had a fifth-year option to pick up on Charlton for the 2021 season, but opted to waive him on Thursday.

Charlton, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2017. Dallas made the decision to waive him in September of last year and was claimed by Miami shortly after.

Charlton was entering the final year of his four-year, $10.02 million rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $1.83 million in 2020 when he was waived.

In 2019, Charlton appeared in 10 games and recorded 21 total tackles, three tackles for loss, five sacks, and two forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 100 overall edge defender out of 107 qualifying players.
