According to Adam Schefter, the Houston Texans will not hire a general manager for the 2019 season.
Schefter says the Texans will divide general manager responsibilities between current front office employees, including Matt Bazirgan, James Liipfert, Chris Olsen and Jack Easterby.
The Texans were seriously interested in hiring Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio after they fired GM Brian Gaine in June.
However, the Patriots filed tampering charges against the Texans because of a clause in Caserio’s contract prohibiting him from interviewing with other teams.
The Texans dropped the interview request and Caserio remains under contract in New England through the 2020 draft.
It’s possible that Caserio eventually ends up in Houston next season once his contract expires. A report by Ben Volin indicates Caserio “wants out of New England.”
The Texans also conducted interviews with former Browns GM Ray Farmer and former Lions GM Martin Mayhew.
