Albert Breer reports that the Houston Texans brought in seven free agents for tryouts on Thursday.
The list includes:
- LB Daren Bates
- LS Andrew DePaola
- RB Tyler Gaffney
- LS Anthony Kukwa
- LB Christian Kuntz
- P Dane Roy
- LS Cameron Tinker
Bates, 29, wound up signing on with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn back in 2013. He played out his rookie contract with the team before testing the open market and signing a one-year contract with the Raiders.
From there, Bates signed and played out a three-year, $6 million deal with the Titans before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
In 2019, Bates appeared in 13 games for the Titans, recording ten tackles, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
Gaffney, 29, is a former sixth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. He was in the third year of his four-year, $2,316,600 rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $600,000 for the 2016 season when he was waived and later claimed by the Patriots.
New England ultimately waived him coming out of the preseason in 2016 with an injury designation and he later reverted to their injured reserve list. Gaffney later had a brief stint with the Jaguars.
Gaffney was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates back in 2012 and returned to baseball in 2018 before eventually deciding to retire from the sport in 2019.
Gaffney last appeared at Stanford, where he ran for 2,500 yards on 486 carries (5.1 YPC) and scored a total of 37 touchdowns over the course of his four-year career.
