According to Jason La Canfora, Titans QB Ryan Tannehill is not only looking at making as much as $2 million in incentives this season, he’s setting himself up as one of the more intriguing options on the quarterback market in 2020.
Since Tennessee turned to Tannehill over previous No. 2 overall pick Marcus Mariota back in Week 7, the Titans have gone 3-1 and are firmly in the playoff hunt in the AFC.
La Canfora reports Tannehill is earning rave reviews within the Titans organization, with the change of scenery after being traded from Miami helping to boost his confidence. La Canfora adds Tennessee will try to re-sign Tannehill this offseason, though no talks have started yet.
The Chargers and Saints were other teams contemplating a trade for Tannehill this offseason and could be options for him in 2020 depending on what happens with aging starting QBs Philip Rivers and Drew Brees, according to La Canfora.
Tannehill, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2012. Miami traded Tannehill to the Titans this offseason for draft compensation.
As a part of the trade, Tannehill reworked his contract to a one-year, $1.875 million deal with the potential for more incentives. He’ll be a free agent following the 2019 season.
In 2019, Tannehill has appeared in five games for the Titans and completed 71.3 percent of his pass attempts for 1,161 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions.
