Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean writes that the Titans plan on using a running back by committee this season, though he believes that rookie RB Bishop Sankey “will be the busiest back.”
- Wyatt notes that RB Dexter McCluster made the most of his opportunities during the offseason workouts, while RB Shonn Greene is no “slam dunk” to make the roster.
Most teams employ some form of a running back by committee these days, which is largely attributed to the elevation of the passing game, and the emphasis on keeping backs fresh.
Wyatt’s comments are noteworthy however, asย he seems to believe a pecking order has been established. ย Sankey missed much of the offseason workouts while completing school commitments, but it does appear that they view him as an every down player.
Greene is coming off a second knee surgery, and with a $2.3 million salary for 2014, Tennessee may need to see more than short-yardage production to justify his spot on the roster.
