Tom Brady Plans To Test Free Agency

According to Jason La Canfora, Patriots QB Tom Brady is likely to test free agency this coming March and explore meetings with other teams.

While a return to New England in 2020 is still not out of the question, La Canfora says it would be extremely surprising if Brady agreed to a new deal before his contract expires in March.

La Canfora quotes a source as saying it’s only “human nature” for Brady to want to explore his options after so long in New England. The veteran quarterback is expected to take a methodical approach to weigh his options with other teams and decide where the best opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl is.

Brady has confirmed he will be playing in 2020 — either with the Patriots or elsewhere. He still wants to play until he is 45 and has expressed interest in becoming a mentor to a younger quarterback no matter where he ends up.

Brady, 42, is a former sixth-round pick of the Patriots back in 2000. He was in the final year of his two-year, $41 million contract when he agreed to a two-year extension a few weeks ago.

Brady made $23 million for the 2019 season and is in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2019, Brady appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and threw for 4,057 yards, 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also rushed for 34 yards and three touchdowns.
