TRADE: Dolphins Trading For 49ers C Daniel Kilgore

The 49ers and Dolphins announced on Thursday that they have agreed to a trade that will send center Daniel Kilgore to Miami.

  • Armando Salguero reports that the 49ers and Dolphins will swap seventh-round picks as part of this deal.

“On behalf of the entire organization I want to thank Dan for everything he contributed to this team and the Bay Area community over the last seven seasons,” said General Manager John Lynch. “When Kyle and I arrived last offseason, we knew right away that he was a well-respected leader in the locker room and a true professional. We are pleased to be able to help find Dan a great situation to be able to continue his career, and we wish him and his wife, Megan, the very best.

The 49ers signed Weston Richburg to a big-money contract on Wednesday, so it was clear that Kilgore wasn’t going to be starting for them at center in 2018.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins are releasing veteran C Mike Pouncey, so they clearly were in need of a replacement.

Kilgore, 30, is a former fifth-round pick of the 49ers back in 2011. He has spent all seven years of his NFL career in San Francisco and was in line to be an unrestricted free agent next month.

Kilgore played out the final year of the three year, $5.25 million deal he received back in 2014 before agreeing to a three-year extension worth nearly $12 million and includes $7 million guaranteed with the 49ers last month.

In 2017, Kilgore appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 23 center out of 37 qualifying players.
