Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that the three-month CT scan on Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa‘s hip showed that the fracture has healed.
According to Rapoport, Tagovailoa’s range of motion is “good” and it will likely be another month before he’s cleared for football activities.
Should Tagovailoa continue to progress, Rapoport says the expectation is that he should have a “very good” medical exam at the Combine.
A few weeks ago, Tagovailoa said during an interview with ESPNโs โGolic and Wingoโ Thursday that he’s still on track to make a “full recovery” from the hip injury he suffered last year.
โEverything looks good,โ Tagovailoa said, via Mike Rodak of Al.com. “The bone has healed pretty well. They usually give it a three-month mark. [February 10] will be when we go in for a CT scan with my doctors in Birmingham and I think an MRI, as well. Thatโs usually the mark they give the bone to heal. Right now weโre on pace for a full recovery.โ
Tagovailoa confirmed that he will attend the NFL combine in Indianapolis to meet with teams and go through the medical evaluation part. However, he didn’t commit to holding a Pro Day later on.
โMy thing is I want to go to the combine and solely focus on my medical. I just want to win my medical,” Tagovailoa said. “Other people are going there to win their 40 [yard dash], win the bench press.
“Once weโre good, cleared to go with the CT scans and the MRIs, weโll then have to take on the other challenge of am I going to hold a pro day and things like that.โ
Tagovailoa, 21, is still expected to be a high first-round pick in this year’s draft, despite the serious hip injury. In fact, many experts believe he’ll still be a top-five pick as long as things check out with his hip.
For his career, Tagovailoa has completed 69.3 percent of his passes for 7,442 yards, 87 touchdowns and 11 interceptions over the course of three seasons and 32 games. He has also rushed for 340 yards and nine touchdowns.
