Vikings HC Kevin Oโ€™Connell Wants To Remain In Minnesota

According to Kevin Seifert, Vikings HC Kevin Oโ€™Connell says he remains focused on the teamโ€™s upcoming game against the Rams, acknowledging reports that some NFL teams might be interested in trading for him during this coach hiring cycle.

โ€œThis is where I want to be.โ€ Oโ€™Connell told Seifert, noting that his contract expired after the 2025 season.

Pro Football Talk spoke with a Vikingsโ€™ source regarding the earlier report from Sunday that teams around the NFL are interested in pursuing a potential trade for HC Kevin Oโ€™Connell

โ€œWe love Kevin and there will be no trade,โ€ Pro Football Talkโ€™s source said of the report.

Jay Glazer specifically reported that there are multiple NFL teams that will try to make a run at trading for Oโ€™Connell.

Glazer noted Oโ€™Connell is entering the final year of his contract in 2025 and hasnโ€™t had any contract talks with Minnesota yet.

Still, it would have been shocking if Minnesota let Oโ€™Connell out of the building after heโ€™s become one of the best young coaches in the NFL.

Oโ€™Connell, 39, is a former third-round pick of the Patriots back in 2008. After five years in the NFL, Oโ€™Connell was hired by the Browns as their quarterbacksโ€™ coach in 2015.

Oโ€™Connell spent one year with the 49ers before Washington hired him as their quarterbacksโ€™ coach in 2017. He was promoted to passing game coordinator in 2019 and joined the Rams as offensive coordinator in 2020.

The Vikings hired away Oโ€™Connell as their head coach in 2022.

In three years with the Vikings, Oโ€™Connell has a record of 34-16 with one playoff appearance and an 0-1 playoff record.

We will have more news on Oโ€™Connell as it becomes available.
