Vikings Reportedly Considering Veteran G Travelle Wharton

According toย Chris Tomasson of theย St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Vikings will consider signing Panthers free agent Gย Travelle Wharton, depending on what happens with Gย Charlie Johnson.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman recently mentioned that he would like to re-sign G Charlie Johnson this offseason, but he supposedly as interest from the other NFL teams.

โ€œI think the more depth you can accumulate on that offensive line, it really helps your ballclub,โ€ Spielman said, via theย Minneapolis Star-Tribune. โ€œThatโ€™s an area that weโ€™ll probably address in the draft as well.โ€

Wharton, 32, mentioned that he’s still undecided as to whether or not he’ll be back next season.

“Iโ€™m really just enjoying my family time right now,” he said, via theย Charlotte Observer. “I donโ€™t want to say Iโ€™m done and I donโ€™t want to say Iโ€™m going to keep playing for another five or six years. I donโ€™t know.

Wharton is arguably the best available guard in the free agent market. According to Pro Football Focus, he was the No. 6 guard in the league last year and was very solid in both run and pass-protecting.

The Panthers could use some offensive line help now that they have lost to two guys to retirement, but they are reportedly waiting for value in the free agent market.
