Tashaun Gipson Preparing To Test Open Market, Would Like To Re-Sign With Browns

Browns impending free agent S Tashaun Gipson said that his representatives haven’t spoken with the team regarding an extension in a long time, per Scott Petrak.

Gipson said that they tried to get a deal done before the start of the season, but it ultimately didn’t come together, per Petrak.

According to Gipson, it’s not “alarming” that there have been no contract talks during the season, per Petrak. He’s now preparing to test the free agent market, but stressed that he would like to be back in Cleveland next year.

If the two parties can work out something that’s fair for both sides, Gipson said he’d like to re-sign with the Browns, per Petrak.

“I still feel like I’m the best ballhawking safety in the NFL,” Gipson told reporters, per Petrak.

Gipson, 25, signed on with the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming back in 2012. He signed a one-year restricted tender with the Browns worth $2.356 million last year.

This season, Gipson has appeared in 12 games for the Browns and recorded 57 tackles, two interceptions and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 84 safety out of 87 qualifying players.
