Agent For Browns WR Travis Benjamin Optimistic They’ll Have An Extension Done Soon

Ronald Butler, the agent for Browns WR Travis Benjamin tells the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he’s “optimistic” that they’ll be able to get an agreement in place that will keep his client with the team.

“I’m optimistic that something will get something done in the near future,” Butler. “We’ve been in contact with the organization here in the last couple of weeks and we’re still trying to figure out how we can get this thing done where both sides agree to a fair offer. But Cleveland has made strides in terms of getting him back in a Browns uniform.”

Butler added that new Browns HC Hue Jackson “loves” Benjamin and they’re excited about the possibility of him playing in Jackson’s system.

Oh yeah, Hue loves Travis,” said Butler. “We actually spoke about it, Hue and I. He’s a great guy. He’s great at what he does as far as coaching and offensively what he brings to the table and I think he’s excited about the possibility of having Travis come back there and jump into that offense and help them win ballgames.

Last we heard regarding Benjamin, he told that he was “75 to 80 percent” close to signing an extension, per Mary Kay Cabot.

Benjamin, 25, was taken in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL draft by the Browns. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.577 million rookie contract and is in position to be one of the best available receivers in this year’s free agent market.

In 2015, Benjamin appeared in all 16 games and recorded 68 receptions for 966 yards receiving and five touchdowns. Benjamin has also contributed 324 punt return yards and a touchdown. Pro Football Focus has Benjamin rated as the No. 86 receiver out of 119 qualifying players.
