49ers Designate Rookie CB Will Redmond As Player To Return From Injured Reserve

The San Francisco 49ers have designated rookie CB Will Redmond as their one player who can return from the injured reserve list on Tuesday, according to Matt Maiocco.

This means that the 49ers now have a 21-day window to officially activate Redmond from injured reserve. The earliest Redmond could appear in a game would be their Week 9 matchup with the Saints.

Each team is allowed to return one player from the injured reserve list at a later point in the year but unlikely previous years, they don’t have to immediately decide who they’re bringing back.

Redmond, 22, was taken in the third round of this year’s NFL draft. He signed a four-year, $3.54 million contract with the 49ers and stands to make a base salary of $450,000 for the 2016 season.

During his college career at Mississippi State, Redmond recorded 94 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, five interceptions, and eight pass defenses over the course of three seasons and 26 games.
