49ers Unlikely To Keep CB Carlos Rogers At His Current Salary

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that sources have “indicated” that 49ers CB Carlos Rogers is unlikely to be back at his current salary.

  • Maiocco believes San Francisco will either ask him to accept a “dramatic pay cut” or cut him loose at some point in the near future.

Maiocco previously reported that the 49ers want Rogers to reduce his salary by “more than half” next season.

Rogers, 32, signed a four-year, $29.3 million contract with the 49ers back in 2012 and still has two years remaining at base salaries of $6.25 million and $7.25 million respectively.

His cap figure sits at just above $8 million next season. The 49ers would free up around $5 million in cap space by releasing him, according to OverTheCap.com.

Last year, Rogers totaled 47 tackles, two interceptions, and eight pass defenses over the course of 16 games last season. Pro Football Focus rated Rogers as the No. 71 cornerback in 2013, struggling particularly in coverage.
