AFC North Notes: Bengals, Browns, Ravens

Bengals

While other players are looking for new contracts like Falcons WR Julio Jones, A.J. Green tells the Cincinnati Enquirer that he’s “comfortable” with his contract and has no plans to hold out for a new deal.

“I think the biggest thing for me, I’m always comfortable with stuff I’m doing – I signed a deal and I’m comfortable with the deal and I just live with it,” Green said. “After that’s up, we go back to the board. I don’t really get caught up in what’s the money like because I signed my deal and it was the highest paid at that point. It’s going to always go up. So you can’t keep up with that.

“For me, I just keep everything simple,” Green added. “I really don’t try to get into all that other stuff. At the end of the day I just want to play football. I got my contract. I’m set for life. Now I can just go out there and play.”

Browns

• Scott Petrak of the BrownsZone.com writes that “it’s difficult to imagine a scenario in which the Browns have consistent success under [John] Dorsey without [Baker] Mayfield excelling. And if Mayfield isn’t good, it would be hard for Dorsey to survive and get the chance to draft a second quarterback.“
• Regarding the Browns’ recent decision to sign former No. 2 overall pick Greg Robinson, Petrak says that the Browns do not appear to be satisfied with their current group of left tackle options. As of now, Robinson, Shon Coleman and Austin Corbett are the most likely candidates to replace Joe Thomas.
• Should Corbett not secure the starting left tackle job, Petrak expects him to open the season on the bench, which obviously wouldn’t be ideal considering that the team used No. 33 overall pick on him.
• Petrak doesn’t rule out the Browns signing a veteran safety at some point, but he says that likely would not happen until the preseason.
• As for the supplemental draft, Petrak wouldn’t be surprised to see the Browns use a fourth-round pick on Mississippi State S Brandon Bryant.

Ravens

New Ravens WR Willie Snead said he believes Baltimore is “ready to win” now and return to the playoffs next season.

“It’s a team that’s ready to win and take it to the next level,” said Snead, via Christopher Dabe of The Times-Picayune. “I’m excited for the opportunity.”

Snead explained that he did not want to leave the Saints as a free agent, but he understands New Orleans could not match the Ravens’ offer.

“You never want to leave a place like that because you build so many great relationships, but it’s a business,” Snead said.
