Bears & Jets Among Teams With Interest In Cardinals DC Todd Bowles

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Bears and Jets are among the NFL teams “intrigued” by Cardinals DC Todd Bowles.

Bowles has done a phenomenal job with the Cardinals defense in recent years, especially when you consider the number of key injuries they have sustained.

According to La Canfora, HC Bruce Arians is operating under the assumption that he’s going to have find a new defensive coordinator next season, as Bowles should be one of the hottest head coaching candidates in the next few months.

Arizona was well aware Bowles was going to garner plenty of interest and rewarded him with a contract extension last month, even though he will likely be coaching elsewhere at the start of the 2015 season.

The Bears and Jets are widely expected to be in the market for a new coach.

Chicago has to find someone who can fix their horrible defense and develop young players. If that’s truly the goal, I can’t think of a better coach for the Bears to consider.

The Jets are likely to cast a wide net as their look to replace Rex Ryan. Their offense has been the biggest issue for them, so I would be surprised to see them line up several interviews with offensive minded coaches.

One other interesting note from La Canfora’s article is that there are some within the Dolphins organization who are still ruing not hiring Bowles after he took over for Tony Sparano on an interim basis.

They too could be in the market for a head coach, so this is just something to keep in mind if Joe Philbin isn’t retained for another season.

We’ll have more updates regarding potential interest in Bowles in the coming weeks.
