Bears Notes: Jordan Howard, Kyle Long, Kevin White

Jordan Howard

Bears HC Matt Nagy told reporters that he doesn’t buy the notion that RB Jordan Howard is just a two-down running back.

There’s this notion that he is just a first- and second-down back, and I don’t believe that,” Nagy said of Howard, via ChicagoBears.com. “We’re going to do that. We’re going to use him and we’re going to use other guys on first and second down when we need to.

“It’s important for Jordan to know and for everybody on our offense to know that he’s a big part of this. This kid’s had a very successful career so far. We’re crazy as coaches if we don’t understand it and if we don’t use that to our advantage.

Kyle Long

Bears G Kyle Long admits that there’s a physical hurdle to get over after dealing with a myriad of injuries over the past few years.

“It’s Day 1 and I was out there at practice, and I got to hit other guys, and that was fun,” Long said, via the Chicago Tribune. “I don’t look much into psychological hurdles. But a physical hurdle? Yes, it was. I had a lot going on this offseason. I’m just really happy to be out here.

Kevin White

Bears HC Matt Nagy said the team will not harp on fourth-year WR Kevin White for making mistakes and hopes he continues to progress this offseason.

We’re not gonna harp on anything that happens — a dropped ball, a route run the wrong way, a wrong split, a missed assignment,” Nagy said, via Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. “We don’t harp on any of that with any of the players — and in particular with him.”

Nagy added that White has been able to “play fast” during the offseason program and he must continue to perform well in the preseason.

We just want him to be him and play — play fast. And he’s done that so far. Again, it’s going to be up to him to do it in the preseason games and see where it takes him.”
