Bears Open To Drafting A QB If They Are Unable To Re-Sign Josh McCown

Bears GM Phil Emery told reporters at the Combine on Thursday that they would consider drafting a quarterback if they are unable re-sign veteran backup Josh McCown this offseason.

“We’re open to drafting any position that would help us,” Emery said, via NFL.com.

Emery also mentioned that they will have a lot of work to do with the limited cap space they have available as of right now.

Assuming the Bears are in fact interested in drafting a quarterback, it would make sense for them to consider someone in the middle rounds of the draft such as: Zach Mettenberger (LSU), A.J. McCarron (Alabama), Derek Carr (Fresno State) and Jimmy Garoppolo (Eastern Illinois).

McCown has said that he has no intention of retiring and would like to return to Chicago next season.

Last year, McCown basically resurrected his career after Jay Cutler went down with an injury. He completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 1,829 yards to go along with 13 touchdowns and just a single interception.

It will be interesting to see what kind of market he has in the coming months. We have McCown listed as the No. 58 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
