Bears Re-Signing TE Zach Miller To One-Year Deal

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that the Bears have re-signed TE Zach Miller to a one-year contract on Monday, even though it’s doubtful he’ll be able to resume his NFL career following a serious knee injury that nearly cost him his leg.

Miller receives a “split” contract with the Bears that will pay him $458,000 for 2018, whether he plays or not. Should Miller be able to resume his career, he would $790,000 for the 2018 season.

This is a good gesture on the part of the Bears, as Miller, unfortunately, became a free agent the year after a major knee injury.

Miller, 33, is a former sixth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2009. He signed on with the Bears in 2015 and returned to the team on a two-year, $5.5 million contract includes $3 million guaranteed in 2016.

Miller made a base salary of $1.5 million this season and will be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.

In 2017, Miller appeared in eight games and caught 20 passes for 236 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
