Bears Waive P Tress Way & Release LS Chad Rempel

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears have placed P Tress Way on waivers, which clears the way for sixth-round pick P Pat O’Donnell to be the team’s punter this year.

  • Chicago also released LS Chad Rempel.

O’Donnell was the odds-on favorite to win the job, so this news shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Way, 22, signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma back in 2013. He later signed a future/reserve contract with Chicago in early January, but has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Rempel, 31, signed with the Bears back in April. Before that, he played for the Toronto Argonauts during the 2012 season and even spent time Bears HC Marc Trestman in 2009.
