Browns Sign TE Gary Barnidge To A Three-Year Extension Worth Over $12M

Update:

The Cleveland Browns and TE Gary Barnidge have both announced that they’ve reached an agreement on a contract extension that will keep the tight end under team control for the foreseeable future.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Barnidge receives a three-year extension worth over $12 million from the Browns.

“It’s a tremendous honor that Cleveland has the faith in me,” Barnidge said. “I want to be here whenever we turn this thing around. I know we haven’t had the season we wanted this year but I’m looking forward to the future and getting everything turned around.”

“This is good news for both Gary and the Cleveland Browns,” Browns General Manager Ray Farmer said. “Gary is someone that does things the right way, both on and off the field. He’s a true professional and we are excited to have him remain a Cleveland Brown.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that an extension between the Browns and TE Gary Barnidge is considered “imminent.”

  • Albert Breer confirms that the Browns are working on a contract extension for Barnidge.

Barnidge has been one of the most surprising breakout players of the 2015 season, and is in position to be one of the most sought after tight ends in next year’s free agent market.

Barnidge, 30, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2008. After five years in Carolina, Barnidge signed a three-year contract with the Browns and is in position to be an unrestricted free agent next year.

This season, Barnidge has appeared in 12 games and caught 60 passes for 817 yards receiving and seven touchdowns for the Browns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 39 tight end out of 69 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding an extension between the Browns and Barnidge as the news is available.
