Buccaneers Starting QB Jameis Winston In Week 7

Buccaneers HC Dirk Koetter announced Friday that Jameis Winston will start Sunday’s game against the Bills.

“Jameis will be our starter Sunday,” said Koetter, per Jenna Laine. “He threw the ball well today.”

Indications have been that Winston was going to get the start after he took the majority of first-team reps in practice, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Winston suffered an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder during Sunday’s game and was replaced by Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Winston, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $25.35 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Winston has appeared in five games and thrown for 1,259 yards while completing 60.4 percent of his passes to go along with seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 quarterback out of 34 qualifying players.
