Cardinals Plan To Exercise Option On CB Patrick Peterson, Hoping To Get Extension Done

Kent Somers of azcentral.com writes that the Cardinals “plan to exercise” the option in CB Patrick Peterson‘s contract keeping him in Arizona through 2015.

  • Somers adds that the Cardinals plan to discuss a long-term extension this offseason as well, but that exercising the option keeps Peterson for another year, and gives them leverage for an extension.

Peterson, 23, is entering his fourth-year in the NFL.  His contract, like that of all 2011 first-round picks, is for four years, with a team option for a fifth.

It comes as no surprise that Arizona plans to exercise the option.  Peterson has established himself as an elite cornerback and return specialist.

Pro Football Focus rated Peterson the No. 16 cornerback in the 2013 season.
