Chargers Have Shown Interest In WR Cecil Shorts

Michael Gehlken of the Union-Tribune San Diego reports that the Chargers have shown interest in free agent WR Cecil Shorts.

  • According to Gehlken, San Diego is weighing their option at receiver including other free agents like Stevie Johnson and Michael Crabtree.

It looks like things could pick up for the remaining free agent receivers in the coming days now that most of the notable free agents are off the board.

Shorts has come up as a potential option for the Browns, Jets, and possibly the Panthers in recent days, but it’s hard to say who could be the favorite at this point in time.

Shorts, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Jaguars, who played out his four-year, $2,672,146 rookie contract that included $443,380 guaranteed, and should be able to secure a raise in the coming weeks.

In 2014, Shorts caught 66 receptions for 777 yards receiving and three touchdowns over the course of 13 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 98 receiver out of 110 qualifying players.

We have Shorts at No. 56 in our Top 2015 NFL Free Agents List.
