Chargers Sign RB Andre Williams To Practice Squad After Clearing Waivers

The San Diego Chargers announced Monday that they’ve signed RB Andre Williams to their practice squad after he cleared waivers.

The Chargers’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. DT Kaleb Eulls
  2. OLB Ben Gardner
  3. S Adrian McDonald
  4. WR Dom Williams
  5. CB Trevor Williams
  6. TE Jake McGee
  7. OLB Chris Landrum
  8. TE Austin Traylor
  9. WR Isaiah Burse

Williams, 24, is a former fourth-round pick by the Giants of the 2014 NFL Draft. He is in the second year a four-year, $2,673,600 rookie contract and set to earn a base salary of $600,000 for 2016.

The Giants waived Williams coming out of the preseason and he was later claimed by the Chargers. The Chargers elected to cut him loose on Saturday to make room for TE Asante Cleveland, who was promoted from their practice squad.

In 2015, Williams appeared in all 16 games for the Giants and recorded 257 yards on 88 carries (2.9 YPC) and scored one rushing touchdown. He also caught one pass for seven receiving yards.
