Chiefs A “Sleeper” Team To Draft A QB?

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen mentioned that the Kansas City Chiefs could be a team to keep an eye on in this year’s draft regarding quarterback prospects.

Mortensen mentions that this could depend on how things play out in the first-round of the draft and whether or not the Chiefs are able to trade out of their No. 23 overall pick.

Mortensen also points to Chiefs HC Andy Reid‘s history of taking quarterback in the mid-rounds of the draft as another reason why it would make sense for Kansas City.

Interestingly enough, Mortensen suggests that Fresno State QB Derek Carr has been among the quarterbacks linked to the Chiefs.

The team still hasn’t reach an agreement with QB Alex Smith regarding a long-term extension, so drafting a developmental prospect would at least give them some added leverage in contract talks.

As things stand right now, the Chiefs are currently without a second-round pick and have major holes to fill on offensive line. Beat reporters have been saying for some time now that they are a perfect candidate to trade back and acquire some additional picks to work with.

For what it’s worth, we have the Chiefs taking Oregon State WR Brandin Cooks in the first round of our recently updated 2014 NFL Mock Draft.
