Chiefs S Eric Berry Has Ruptured Achilles, Out For Season

Chiefs HC Andy Reid announced Friday that S Eric Berry has a ruptured Achilles tendon, per BJ Kissel.

This injury will likely lead to Berry undergoing surgery and ultimately being placed on season-ending injured reserve in the coming days.

Berry, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2010. He worked his way back from Hodgkinโ€™s lymphoma and managed to produce an impressive 2015 season.

Berry played out his rookie contract with the team before receiving the teamโ€™s franchise tag back in February. However, the two parties ultimately agreed to a new six-year, $78 million contract that includes $29.8 million guaranteed

In 2016, Berry appeared in all 16 games and recorded 77 tackles, four interceptions with two being returned for touchdowns, a forced fumble and nine pass defenses for the Chiefs. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 safety out of 92 qualifying players.
