HC Leslie Frazier: Christian Ponder Still The Starting QB

Dan Barreiro of KFAN-FM in Minneapolis believes that HC Leslie Frazier has already made his decision on who will start Week 6 against Carolina.

It’s very speculative at this point, but one would have to think that Frazier would want to bring Christian Ponder back slowly if Matt Cassel continues to give the team a chance to win. We’ll provide more info as it becomes available.

Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier insisted during his Tuesday afternoon press conference that QB Christian Ponder is still their starting quarterback, per Kevin Seifert.

Matt Cassel started in place of Ponder during Week 4’s win over the Steelers. While Cassel wasn’t overly impressive, he was able to do a few things Ponder has struggled with this season like convert on third downs and make plays down field.

Frazier wouldn’t go as far to guarantee that Ponder will be under center for their Week 6 matchup. Frazier mentioned that Ponder is “still injured,” so we’ll have to see how his rib injury is doing in the days leading up their next game.

With 1-3 start to the season and with Frazier’s contract being up at the end of the year, it would seem they would go with the quarterback who gives them the best shot at winning a game, even if that means benching the guy they’ve committed to being their starter the past few seasons.
