Colts Place CB D’Joun Smith On Short-Term Injured Reserve, Promote CB Eric Patterson

The Indianapolis Colts announced Friday that they’ve placed CB D’Joun Smith (knee) on injured reserve with the designation to return.

  • The Colts promoted CB Eric Patterson to the 53-man roster and signed CB Brandon Dixon to their practice squad.

This means Smith won’t be able to return to the team until Week 9, but he’ll be able to practice before then.

The Colts are dealing with a number of injuries at cornerback, so they’ll need some one to step up and get Greg Toler and Darius Butler back.

Smith, 22, was taken in the third round of this year’s NFL draft and signed a four-year, $3.314 million contract with Indianapolis.

During the preseason, Smith recorded four tackles over the course of four games.
