Cowboys CB Orlando Scandrick was carted off of the practice field on Tuesday with what could be a serious knee injury, per Ian Rapoport.

  • Adam Schefter reports that the Cowboys in fact believe that Scandrick tore his ACL, and are awaiting MRI results to confirm.

According to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, Scandrick’s right-knee appeared to “buckle” as he in went for a tackle against WR Lucky Whitehead, who subsequently fell on Scandrick’s knee.

Losing Scandrick would be a huge setback to the Cowboys and their defense. Given that he has been the team’s mainstay No. 1 cornerback opposite of Brandon Carr, it is possible for the Cowboys to look around at free agent options.

Scandrick, 28, has consistently appeared for Dallas since he was drafted in 2008. Signing a five-year, $20 million contract just last May, it is clear to see that Scandrick is in the team’s long term plans.

In 2014, Scandrick appeared to have a breakout season after landing as the No. 10 overall cornerback in NFL, according to Pro Football Focus. Last season, he accumulated: 55 total tackles, one sack, nine pass defenses, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions.

We will provide more information regarding Scandrick’s injury as the news becomes available.
