Eagles No Longer Negotiating Short-Term Extension With QB Sam Bradford

Ed Werder reports that the Eagles are no loner engaged with QB Sam Bradford‘s representatives in an attempt to negotiate a short-term contract extension.

  • According to Werder, Bradford’s preseason success has actually changed the dynamics of the situation.

Previous reports had said that the Eagles were hoping to sign him to a short-term extension that would give them control of their quarterback beyond this season.

However, Bradford is in position to command a huge salary if he continues to play at a high level like he did during the preseason.

Bradford, 27, has yet to live up to his draft status and is coming off of back-to-back ACL tears, so there are some serious concerns/question marks about how he’ll hold up over the course of a full season.

He has one year remaining on his six-year, $78 million contract that included $50 million guaranteed. Bradford stands to make a base salary of $12.985 million for the 2015 season to go along with a cap figure of $12.985 million.

Bradford’s preseason was highlighted by a perfect 10 for 10 performance against the Packers, which included three touchdown passes.
