Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery May Not Be Ready For Week 1

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that while Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery, who is working his way back from offseason rotator cuff surgery, is progressing according to the team’s plan, there’s still a chance he may not be ready for the opener.

According to Rapoport, it’s possible that Jeffery could remain on the Eagles’ PUP list for the start of the season.

If Jeffery opens the year on the PUP list, it would cost him the first six games of the regular season.

Jeffery, 28, was taken in the second-round of the 2012 NFL draft by the Bears. He played out the final year of his four-year, $4.54 million rookie contract with Chicago before agreeing to a one-year, $9.5 million contract with the Eagles last year.

Jeffery was in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason before he agreed to a four-year, $52 million extension last year.

In 2017, Jeffery has appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles and caught 57 passes for 789 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 21 receiver out of 116 qualifying players.
