Frank Gore’s Contract Not What It Seemed

Earlier in the week the 49ers re-signed RB Frank Gore to what was reported then to be a three-year extension worth $21 million and included $13.5 million guaranteed.

Pro Football Talk reports that a source familiar with the deal informed them that the deal was for $18.9 million and included $2.1 million in incentives that would require Gore to gain more than 1,600 yards rushing and receiving in 2012, 2013, and 2014.

The deal includes $12.5 million guaranteed money for injuries only which basically means that Gore can be released at any point in time without receiving this money.

This deal certainly is not what it was originally believed to be and shows you just how little leverage Gore and his representation had going into negotiations.
