Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reports that the Giants inquired and expressed “serious interest” in trading for Seahawks SS Kam Chancellor.

While the trade talks were only considered in the preliminary phase, it is a very interesting situation with Chancellor currently holding out for a new contract.

Chancellor, 27, is unhappy with the four-year, $28 million deal he signed in 2013. Known as one of the best safeties in the NFL, he has been vocal about his holdout and has even declared that he is comfortable sitting out regular season games until a new deal is finalized.

As of two weeks ago, Alvin Keels, the agent for Chancellor, told Josina Anderson of ESPN that “nothing has changed” in regards to his clients holdout and he has no plans to report to the team until his contract is addressed.

“Nothing has changed. He will not report without his contract being addressed this season,” Keels said. “The team and I have been in contact, but we haven’t been able to agree on any compromise.

It is worth noting that Jason Cole of Bleacher Report believes the Seahawks will add an extra year to Chancellor’s contract, in hopes that more money upfront will appease his desire for a new contract.

At this point in time, it is unclear if Chancellor and the Seahawks have made any progress towards a new deal. With news that he has been included in trade discussion, could be an indicator that the two are not yet close.

In 2014, Chancellor appeared in 14 games and recorded 78 tackles, one interceptions, a forced fumble and six pass defenses for the Seahawks. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 20 safety out of 87 qualifying players.
