Jaguars Starting QB Blake Bortles In Week 8

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Monday that they’re sticking with Blake Bortles as their starting quarterback for Week 8’s game against the Eagles.

Here’s the statement from Jaguars Coach Doug Marrone:

“I spoke to both quarterbacks this afternoon and told them that Blake will be our team’s starting quarterback. I believe this gives us the best opportunity to win.”

Bortles was benched on Sunday in favor of Cody Kessler, but it appears as though Jacksonville isn’t willing to completely move on from Bortles at this time.

Kessler will receive reps this week with the starting offense and the plan is for Bortles to be on “a short leash.

Bortles, 26, was taken with the No. 3 overall pick by the Jaguars back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $20,654,796 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $3,236,565 for the 2017 season.

The Jaguars picked up his fifth-year option and will run them around $19,053,000 for the 2018 season, but elected to sign him to a three-year, $54 million contract worth up to $66.5 million with incentives back in February.
