Jay Gruden’s Future In Washington Uncertain

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Redskins HC Jay Gruden’s future in Washington remains to be seen, but there are some within the building including assistant coaches worried about their future.

According to Rapoport, some Redskins’ assistant coaches have been calling around the league making contingency plans in the event changes are made after the season.

Gruden recently mentioned that the team’s four-game losing streak is not weighing on him “at all” and that he is focused on finishing the season.

It doesn’t weigh on me at all,” Gruden said, via John Keim of ESPN. “My key works; I come in and work. … I understand it. You’re fine, you’re fine, you’re fine and then you’re not fine. I’ll wait to get final word when the season is over.

Gruden added that it is not his responsibility to judge his own performance.

“It’s not my job to judge [my performance],” Gruden said. “It’s my job to coach the guys I’ve got. There’s only one judge and he’s the one that has all the money. He’s the one that writes the checks. It’s up to him.

Should Gruden become available, some have said he could be a potential replacement for Marvin Lewis in Cincinnati, as Lewis could transition to a front office role.

Gruden, 51, began his NFL coaching career with the Buccaneers as an offensive assistant. He spent seven years in the position before departing for a job with the Florida Tuskers.

Gruden returned to the NFL as the Bengals offensive coordinator in 2011 before he was hired as the Redskins coach for the 2014 season.

During his four years in Washington, Gruden has led them to a record of 34-42-1 (44.8percent), which includes one playoff appearance back in 2015.

We’ll have more regarding Gruden as the news is available.
