Lions Worked Out Five Players Including QB Keith Wenning & WR Tyler Murphy

Justin Rogers of the Detroit News reports that the Lions worked out five players last week including QB Keith Wenning, QB Logan Thomas, WR Dres Anderson, WR Tyler Murphy and WR Andrew Turzilli.

Thomas has re-signed to the Giants’ practice squad and the Bears added Anderson to their practice squad today.

Wenning, 25, is a former sixth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2014. He was unable to make the team’s final 53-man roster coming out of the preseason during his rookie year but was later added to team’s practice squad.

Baltimore wound up signing Wenning to a future/reserve contract in January but was cut loose shortly after last year’s draft. The Bengals later signed him to a contract last summer, only to cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

Wenning was on and off of the Bengals’ active roster last year.

He has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Murphy, 24, signed on with the Steelers back in as an undrafted free agent out of Boston College. He’s in the first year of his four-year, $1.579 million rookie contract included a $4,500 signing bonus.

Murphy was waived a month into the season to make room for RB Le’Veon Bell, who has been reinstated from his suspension. After that, Murphy was on and off of the Steelers’ practice squad.

The Dolphins elected to sign Murphy to a future/reserve contract in January, but waived him with an injury designation back in April to make room for LB Danny Lansanah. Miami later cut him loose from injured reserve with a settlement.

In 2015, Murphy appeared in two games and caught one pass for 16 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
