Marshawn Lynch Contemplated Retirement After The Season

Seahawks veteran RB Marshawn Lynch mentioned during an appearance on the Conan O’Brien show Monday night that he contemplated retirement after the season, but it sounds like the lure of money was enough to get him to return for at least one more season.

“I mean, you know, in this game, you know, at this running back position, you don’t go that long,” Lynch said. “But, I mean, they put 12 in front of you for a year you start to think like ‘Yeah, maybe I can do this again.”

The Seahawks wound up signing Lynch to a two-year extension worth $24 million, which includes $12 million for the 2015 season.

Lynch, 28, had one year remaining on his four-year, $31 million contract at the time and there had been talk that Lynch could walk away from the NFL.

Lynch finished the 2014 season with 1,306 rushing yards, a career high 13 rushing touchdowns, and four touchdown receptions. In fact, Lynch has eclipsed 1,200 rushing yards in each of the past four seasons. In addition, Pro Football Focus rated Lynch as the No. 2 overall running back in 2014.
