Report: “Multiple Teams” Interested In Trading For 49ers G Alex Boone

Update:

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area has confirmed that “multiple teams” are in fact interested in trading for 49ers G Alex Boone.

“It’s definitely multiple teams that are interested in him,” Maiocco’s source said.

However, Maiocco’s source didn’t reveal any of the interested parties.

According to Maiocco, it remains unknown whether any team has reached out to the 49ers regarding trade.

Boone, 27, is entering the fourth year of a five-year deal and is slated to make $2 million for the 2014 season. He currently counts $2.6 million against the cap next season.

Boone moved from tackle to guard two seasons ago and it paid off in a big way for the 49ers, as he graded out as the No. 3 guard in the 2012 season according to Pro Football Focus.  However, he regressed some last year when he was rated as the No. 40 guard out of 81 qualifying players.

One speculative option that could make sense if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as they could really use some help at guard.

Bill Williamson of ESPN.com reports that the feeling around the NFL is that “multiple teams” could show interest in trading for 49ers G Alex Boone.

  • Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports could see teams “aggressively pursuing” a tradefor Boone as guards are currently in demand around the league.
  • Jason La Canfora confirms that several teams have interest in Boone, but adds that the 49ers have displayed no interest in trading him.
  • According to La Canfora, this could end up being a “long holdout” for Boone.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee previously reported that the 49ers have reached out to Boone about ending his holdout, but he remains “resolute in his stance.

Boone is unhappy with his current deal and is hoping to secure a new contract that would pay him a more competitive salary in line with what starting guards are making around the NFL.

As things stand right now, Boone’s average salary would make him the 43rd highest paid guard in the league.

San Francisco did freed up some extra cap space in recent weeks, but they have shown a willingness to negotiate with players who actually attend camp and not holding out, which is something that could work against Boone.
