NFC Notes: Cowboys, Rams, Vikings

Cowboys

Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram reports that Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has switched agents and has left ProSource Sports for Creative Artists Agency.

Prescott is currently in the third year of his rookie contract and represents one of the best bargains in the entire NFL.

The Cowboys have said that they’re well aware of the fact that he’s going to be fairly paid in the coming years.

“Yeah, you know at that position, it kind of is what it is,” Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said previously. “You kind of, when the time comes, [expect to pay him]. I know Dak is going to have a good year this year. I hope it’s up there. It’s going to be as he deserves. He was a fourth-round pick. No one deserves to get paid fairly more than he does.

We all see what some of the other guys are who aren’t Aaron Rodgers, who aren’t Matt Ryan [are getting paid],” Jones added. “He’s going to do well. We certainly know that’s going to happen. We’ve got that planned in our budgeting for the salary cap.”

Rams

Rams DC Wade Phillips says he’d be surprised if they weren’t a really good pass defense in 2018 following the moves they made this offseason.

“I’d be surprised,” Phillips said, via TheRams.com, “if we weren’t really good on pass defense.”

The Rams traded for CBs Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters this offseason to go along with Lamarcus Joyner and John Johnson at safety and Nickel Robey-Coleman in the slot.

“Not only the two corners, our two safeties are outstanding players and they can cover man to man,” Phillips said. “So, it gives you so many possibilities to double cover somebody and put the pressure on one of those guys to cover his guy by himself.

“[I]t opens up a lot of things for you to play. I mean, I can think of a lot of things to play, but I haven’t always had the players to play those coverages and so forth, and these guys can,” Phillips added. “So we’ve got a lot of versatility there and we can put pressure, we can match up guys. Both corners can play both sides, either side. And Robey’s a tremendous nickel-inside player, and the two safeties are outstanding.

Vikings

Vikings DC George Edwards mentioned during an appearance on Sirius XM NFL Radio that new DL Sheldon Richardson is doing a “tremendous job” of picking up their system.

He’s done a tremendous job this offseason of picking up, schematically, what we’re trying to do — the verbiage that we use, the techniques and the fundamentals that we use — and he’s been a good fit for us this offseason,” Edwards said. “We’re excited about him going into training camp and continuing to work as we press forward to start the season.

“We’re really excited with his skill set, adding it to our group, because he’s disruptive in the run game for sure and he’s also disruptive against the pass,” Edwards added. “Hopefully, we can get him in some one-on-one situations with the personnel that we have. A lot of times, we’re starting to face where they’re concerned about our defensive ends Everson Griffen and Danielle Hunter, where they’ll double them a lot of times, and they’ll end up singling us inside sometimes. So we want to, hopefully with his skill set, be able to take advantage of teams that want to try to do that and, hopefully, pull some of those double teams off our ends in critical situations like third down and those types of deals.
