NFC West Notes: 49ers, Cardinals, Rams

49ers

Cardinals

Cardinals RB David Johnson says interim OC Byron Leftwich is focused on using him in situations to create more mismatches for opposing defenses.

“He was here before, so he already knows what’s kind of going to work,” Johnson said, via AzCardinals.com. “So, he’s talking to me and letting me know that we’re going to get back to that and were going to try and find the mismatches against linebackers or safeties or defenses.”

Johnson specifically mentioned adding more screen passes to help nullify the pass rush.

“It works really well. Especially, against the D-lineman that like to rush the pass or the run trying to get upfield. It really slows them down, makes them hesitate a little bit more in trying to figure out what’s going on,” Johnson said.

Rams

Regarding his recent struggles, Rams CB Marcus Peters said he is focused on moving forward and is not making excuses for allowing several completions.

When things happen like this and you start slow, you don’t make complaints,” Peters said, via Gary Klein of the LA Times. “You don’t sit there and talk about what could have happened. You move forward. It’s all upon me of getting the job done. And I know I can get it done, so that’s the easy part about it.

When you perform in this league as much as I did, and you come in and you’re one of these players who makes those plays, and you’re used to making those plays, and those plays are not coming, it kind of frustrates you,” Peters added. “It’s just all about finding your groove and finding where you fit in through everything and you just go make your plays when they come.
