NFL Notes: Cardinals, Chargers, Giants

Cardinals

Cardinals QB Carson Palmer mentioned that he feels like he has “more zip” and “more velocity” on his passes this year.

“You feel like you have more zip, more velocity,” Palmer said, via the Associated Press. “I feel like I can go out and throw 150 balls in practice. I don’t think I felt that way coming into camp last year.”

Palmer isn’t concerned about his age and feels like the only issue would be if he had a tough time working out from a physical standpoint.

“In football years, I think it’s perceived once you get to 35 you’re old,” Palmer said. “But if you can still put it on every day and play and work out and train and prepare mentally, I look at is as being experienced and mature.

Chargers

  • Eric D. Williams of ESPN writes that bringing back Vincent Jackson could make sense for the Chargers, depending on what happens with rookie WR Mike Williams and his back injury.
  • Other potential options for the Chargers if the need to add another receiver, according to Williams, include Stevie Johnson, Vincent Brown and Javontee Herndon.
  • Williams singles out CB Michael Davis and LB James Onwualu as two undrafted rookies who could push for roster spots this summer.

Giants

  • James Kratch of NJ.com doesn’t think there’s much of a safety battle this year, as the Giants are “extremely high” on S Darian Thompson.
  • Instead, Kratch considers the most intriguing camp battle to be at defensive tackle between second-round pick Dalvin Tomlinson, Robert Thomas, Jay Bromley and Corbin Bryant.
  • Kratch says that Josh Johnson is the slight favorite over Geno Smith for the backup quarterback job right now.
  • Kratch singled out DE Avery Moss as a low-round draft pick that has a shot to make an impact right away for the Giants.
  • If the Giants elect to keep a sixth receiver this year, Kratch believes it could come down to either Roger Lewis or Darius Powe.
