NFL Notes: Malcolm Butler, Reuben Foster, Draft, Colts

Malcolm Butler

  • Albert Breer writes that while the trade rumors surrounding Patriots RFA CB Malcolm Butler have died down in recent weeks, he still wouldn’t close the door on a potential deal.
  • Breer mentions that if Butler signs his restricted tender with the Patriots by April 21, it would open a six-day window for New England to negotiate a potential trade with the Saints or any other team interested in Butler before the start of the draft.
  • The Saints could make their No. 32 overall pick available to the Patriots in a deal for Butler, according to Breer, given that New England doesn’t have a first- or second-round pick right now.

Reuben Foster

  • Alabama LB Reuben Foster was set to visit with the Raiders next week, but he has a scheduling conflict and won’t be able to make it. (Adam Caplan)

Draft

  • Albert Breer believes Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey will end up being a top-20 pick this year. Stanford HC David Shaw compared McCaffrey to Bills RB LeSean McCoy.
  • According to Breer, there are at least four teams looking to trade down from the top-6 picks including the 49ers, Bears, Titans and Jets.
  • FIU TE Jonnu Smith has visited and worked out for the Saints, Vikings, Dolphins, Falcons and Titans. (Ian Rapoport)
  • Ohio DE Tarell Basham is visiting with the Saints Thursday and his scheduled to meet with the Falcons next. (Josh Katzenstein)
  • Vanderbilt DL Adam Butler worked out for the Titans Thursday and has met with the Chargers and Cowboys. (Jim Wyatt)
  • UTEP RB Aaron Jones has worked out for the Saints, Eagles, Cowboys and 49ers with Dallas being the team that has shown the most interest in him. (Sirius XM NFL Radio)
  • Colorado CB Ahkello Witherspoon visited with the Seahawks, Saints, 49ers and Eagles this week. (Ian Rapoport)
