NFL Notes: Ray Rice, Tom Brady, Geno Smith, & Browns

Ray Rice

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said Thursday that he believes free agent RB Ray Rice is deserving of another chance in the NFL.

“I’d like to see him get another shot,” Haslam said, per Bob Holtzman.

Haslam added that they still want to see what their young running backs can do before considering free agent options.

Tom Brady

• Even though Judge Richard M. Berman has made it optional for Commissioner Roger Goodell and Tom Brady to attend next week’s settlement conference, Mike Florio mentions that this could be attempt by Judge Berman to determine how much this case matters to Goodell and/or Brady.

Geno Smith

• Kimberly Jones reports that Jets QB Geno Smith underwent surgery on Thursday and is expected to remain in the hospital overnight.
• Smith is expected to be back at the team’s facility at some point in the near future.
